The Do's and Don'ts of Getting More Sales
Like any profession, there are things you should just not do...
Getting more sales may seem like a daunting task if you’re not well-versed in the world of salesmanship, but with these do’s and don’ts you’ll be able to get those additional sales quickly and effectively. The most important thing to remember is that no matter how great your product or service is, it won’t sell itself, so don’t get discouraged when you aren’t seeing results right away. Just keep following the tips below, and you'll soon be closing more deals than ever before!
DO offer as many different options as possible
You want to give your potential customers as many different options as possible when it comes to buying your product or service. This way, they can choose what works best for them and their budget. DO make it easy for them to buy from you (three sentences): You also want to make sure that it is easy for your potential customers to actually buy from you. This means having a user-friendly website or store and clear pricing information.
DO provide clear instructions on how to pay
When you're selling a product or service, make it easy for your customers to pay you. Be sure to include clear instructions on how to pay, whether that's through Paypal, credit/debit, or some other method. The easier you make it for them, the more likely they are to actually follow through with a purchase.
DON'T be too pushy
No one likes a salesman who's too pushy. If you come on too strong, you'll just end up turning potential customers away. Instead, try to strike a balance between being assertive and respectful. Be polite, listen to what the customer has to say, and then make your pitch. You'll be more likely to get the sale that way. DON'T let yourself be an easy mark: One thing every salesman should remember is not to let themselves be an easy mark. An over-eager salesman will quickly find out how much easier it is to sell products with high ticket prices than it is to sell low-priced items. For example, in his book How I Raised Myself from Failure to Success in Selling Frank Bettger says It is far easier for me to sell a $10,000 suit than it is for me to sell a $5 hat. In short, consider your value and the value customers SHOULD have on your service/product.
DON'T use complicated verbiage
In order to make a sale, you need to be able to communicate with your potential customer. This means using language that they will understand. Avoid using syntax, diction, or jargon that will require them to look up words in order to understand what you're saying. You want to make the sale, not give them a vocabulary lesson.
DON'T keep repeating yourself
You've probably heard the old saying, The customer is always right. While there's some truth to that, if you find yourself constantly repeating the same thing to a customer, it's time to consider how to explain yourself differently in more of a clear manner for others. Believe it or not, people lose a sell every day because they don't simplify things. If a person wishes to learn more, consider making a product you can send so you can further educate them. Let your expertise will speak for itself.
DON'T overwhelm visitors with information
You want to be clear and to the point, without beating around the bush. Overloading visitors with too much information will only serve to confuse them, and they'll likely leave your site without making a purchase. Focus on their needs. Ask questions like: What are you looking for specifically? What can we do to help?
DO give visitors a chance to get in touch with you if they have questions.
You can include your email address, phone number, or a contact form on your website. By making yourself available, you're giving potential customers the chance to ask questions and get more information about your product or service. This can help them feel more comfortable about making a purchase.
